Here’s a Fun Technique for Any Card Maker

BirthdayFront

Using the “Lots o Dots” kit from Dianne Rigdon, I created this elegant birthday greeting. Please take another look at the card front. You’ll see that the right edge has been cut along the “ribbon” and around the “buttons” to make a fun “cut out” card. Successfully creating this two sided card isn’t as hard as it looks. Actually, I think it looks easy, and then when you try to set the printer - it gets harder. Let’s go through the steps, and you’ll see my trick for eliminating printer troubles!

This is a half sheet card - you can either go into a card making graphics program and set it up for a “half fold” double sided card - OR - set up a 8.5″ x 11″ page facing horizontally (not tall). I hate to waste ink, so I only inserted the background and stretched to fit it to 3/4 of the page from left to right. Then, where the blank white met the patterned background - I set the ribbon going up the edge. I centered the top pin design and the three buttons on the ribbon and added my text. I printed this page out. Please know how your printer prints (topside and front or back). My printer printed this starting from the white edge (right side) and prints on the side of the paper that is facing up when it goes in. You’ll need to watch how your printer takes the paper and prints - so when you feed this printed sheet back in to print on the back for the inside of the card - that you’re printing on the correct side and not upside down.

For the inside - I found it easier to just stretch the background paper to fit most of the inside. I needed the inside to be designed throughout, and made sure I had stretched the paper to cover the backside of the buttons and pin.

I added my text on the left, near the fold, so as not to show when the card is closed. Then I carefully loaded my paper back into my printer (upside down, and front edge forward - for my printer). To finish the card, I just cut out along the ribbon edge, cutting around the buttons and pin.

Now, I’m handing this project off to Barbara and she’s going to make the matching envelope.

Very nice card! I’ll have to give that a try!
